🌶️ Classic Chili Recipe

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 45 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour
Servings: 6

🛒 Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (or turkey if preferred)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cans of mild chili beans
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • .5 packet of taco seasoning
  • ½ tsp salt (or to taste)
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (optional for spice)
  • 1 cup beef broth or water

👩‍🍳 Directions

  1. Sauté the Aromatics
In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and bell pepper, cooking until softened (about 5 minutes). Add minced garlic and sauté 1 more minute.
  2. Brown the Meat
Add ground beef to the pot. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Season the Chili
Stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, and cayenne. Let cook for 1–2 minutes to bring out the flavors.
  4. Add Liquids and Beans
Pour in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beans, and broth. Stir to combine.
  5. Simmer
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 30–40 minutes, stirring occasionally. The chili will thicken as it cooks.
  6. Taste and Adjust
Taste for seasoning and adjust spices if needed.
